Skincare IQ Class

This last Sunday I was able to attend a skincare class at Sephora. The whole class was about getting to know your skin type and seeing what would well for your skin issues. Since it was pouring on Sunday we were about to have one on one time with the skincare experts. Usually when there is a full class there is one girl that gets all the demos done to her. But the other two girls and I were so lucky that we got to try out all the products that they recommended for us. I felt like I was at a spa by the luxurious skincare brands we got to try out. The girls that work there were so friendly and willing to share any tips and tricks they use.

It truly was customized by our skin issues because the other two girls try out completely different things that I did. For myself I told my beauty expert Vanessa that my issues were some scaring and huge pores. She went and got some skin care products she thought would work wonders on my skin.

We first started with cleansers. They explained the importance on double cleansing because most of the time when we wash our face the dirt and makeup is still there. So the cleanser I tried out was the Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Cleanser Gel. I loved that it was thick and once I began to massaged it in my pores started feeling refreshed.

Once we rinsed our faces we were given a mask to try out. The mask I got to try out was the boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment. All the beauty experts said that it has worked some miracles on people. They completely swear by this product, so I felt pretty lucky to try it. Once I washed that mask off after 15 minutes I completely understood what they meant. My face looked so luminous and bright after I wiped it off. When they experts saw my face after they were shocked and complimented me on how good my skin looked.

We quickly sprayed on some toner to make sure that when we moisturized everything would be absorbed into our skin. Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Facial Water had a wonderful fragrance that it made me feel like I was at a spa.

If that wasn’t pampering enough they introduced us to some moistures that were essential to our skincare routine. The moisturizer I used was the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation. It seeped into my skin quickly and was very light.

Something that the expert stressed was adding a eye cream to our routine. Once you turn 24 your skin stops producing collagen which starts aging your skin. Since they knew I was young they said that I have enough time to keep grandfather time from adding any fine lines to my face. So they recommended CLINIQUE Pep-Start Eye Cream. One tip they gave me was leaving it in the fridge so when I apply it the cool feeling will soothe my under eyes.

Another thing that keeps our skin from aging is some SPF. It is extremely important because even when its overcast you can get the rays shined on you. COVER FX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is so light that you forget you have it on. It was my personal favorite because it had no fragrance to it.

Finally was the last step finding a BB cream or CC cream that work for us. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better™ CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ was the one I tested out. I loved the coverage and when applied with a beauty blender it gave you such a natural finish.

Once we were done all the experts kept telling me that they were slowly seeing my face brighten up after each step we took and I couldn’t agree with them more. I felt so pampered and refreshed my skin truly thanked me. When my bf saw me he noticed a complete change as well as when I went into work today. Many of my co-workers said that I had a nice glow to my face and once I told them about the class they automatically signed up for the next one. I loved the whole experience especially because it was free that I know I’ll definitely be at the next one too.

Love,

Erika

Feliz Día de la Independencia!

independencia

Today marks a significant day in my culture.

It was the day that Mexico stood together and revolted against the Spaniards.  Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla  was the father of this whole movement. He gave a famous speech known as “Grito de Dolores, or Cry of Dolores”.  It became very powerful because Hidalgo was captured and executed right after he armed his people.  When Hidalgo was killed the people finally had enough of the Spanish rule and fault back . Mexico had won the battle and got back their country. So today Mexican’s all over the world celebrate the glory of victory.  The Mexican President every year go out to the balcony and yells, “Viva México! Viva la Independencia! Vivan los héroes!”  In Mexico they have all these festivals and many make their signiature dishes. It really is a celebration worth seeing.

So today to represent my culture and roots I decided to dress up. As far as my plans I guess I will just have to wait and see what I come up with. Hope you all have a great Friday!

626 Night Market

Today started off with a nice hot coffee.

I woke up feeling the effects of having a fun weekend. It all started Friday night after work, we decided to go to the 626 night market. It was beyond tasty!

Right when we arrived we had no idea where to start. Our minds were being blown after seeing booth after booth. I found myself saying that I had to try that after every single one.

But like most night markets you get some things that were not worth trying. There were about two things that I found that were pretty delicious. For dinner we tried this Filipino chicken and beef BBQ skewers. It was the best Filipino BBQ I have ever had. The ratio of crispness and sauce was perfect!

img_5051

For dessert I had this Thai rolled ice cream. Words can’t describe how amazing it was. Since it was rolled up, it was extremely creamy and light. Every spoonful was pure heaven! The guy who worked there highly recommended the Cookie Butter ice cream over any other creation.

So I took his advice and was extremely happy with it. The only bad thing is now I crave it. Hopefully I can find one near my apartment if not, then I’ll have to wait until September 626 night market.

Yelp Elite Event At The District

So yesterday I attend a Yelp Elite event with my boyfriend. This event was located in Beverly Hills at the restaurant called The District by Hannah An.

We got there 20 minutes early because in any Yelp event it is always worth getting there early. So we walked around the area just to pass the time. As soon as we came back there were already some people heading upstairs.

img_4674

We signed in, got our name tags and free drink tickets.  The first thing we did was go straight to the bar. The line was small so we thought lets put in our order before it becomes chaotic. We both ordered the “Hot Asian”. I was in such a great mood that I started making puns/jokes. I told my boyfriend, “You know for liking a hot Asian, I really don’t care for the Hot Asian”.

img_4673

As people started coming we picked a spot to sit down and enjoy the free food. They had servers that would come around with trays that sampled their food. We tried their Tuna Poke, Duck Confit flatbread, Hannah’s Homemade Noodles and their Spring Rolls. This was just in a bite size since it was a tasting.

img_4659

This was my favorite by far it’s the Tuna Poke. That bite size sent me to heaven! I loved how all the favors complement each other so well. I was dying to get my hands on another.

img_4661

My second favorite was the Duck Confit flatbread. I was so amazed at how much I liked duck. But the cheese , pickled onion and vinaigrette took it to another level.

img_4663-1

Next was Hannah’s Homemade Noodles. They came out nice and warm I had to take moment to properly take a photo of them. This was so simple yet so delicious at the same time. I’m not going to lie, I had some fun mixing all the ingredients together. Other than the noodles it had garlic-lime, Thai basil and panko. My boyfriend and I had two each, so that has to tell you something.

img_4669

If you are a vegan or vegetarian then this might be something you should try. Personally this wasn’t my for me. I was not use to the chef choice protein or their garlic lime vinaigrette.

img_4672

After we left the event I was able to snag a few Yelp goodies such as their lip balm and cute notepads.  The restaurant even gave us these 20 dollar off coupons. I had such  a fun night out that we stopped at our local BCH Tofu place to fill our hungry bellies.

  • Since I was at a Yelp event I’ll post the meal planning tomorrow.

Mexican Getaway

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. Lately I have been working on some side projects and focusing on re-branding.

But last Thursday I decided to take a break from the every day and go on a vacation with my family. My aunt was planning on going there for a quick two day trip. So she invited my mom, sister and I to go.

We all slept over my grandmas house and left to Mexico at 5:30 in the morning. As soon as we made it to San Diego we did our last stop before entering the border. We bought water bottles, snacks and stopped by the bank. After that we ate breakfast at McDonalds and before hitting the road we filled up the gas tank.

Some tips I would give others who haven’t been to Mexico is always bring water. Not only because you can’t drink running water but because you will save more if you but it before hand. Another important tip is to fill up your gas tank. The gas in Mexico isn’t  close to the quality in the U.S. So that small amount of gas you buy there might mess up your engine.

When we arrived in Ensenada we stopped by our favorite taco stand, since we had time to kill. Right when I took a bite, my taste buds went crazy. The tortilla was freshly made and complemented the meat so well. To top it all off I ordered a Mexican bottled coke and that sent me to heaven. Nothing is better than that combination.

We headed to our hotel right after. This time we stayed at a different hotel than usual. The hotel amazingly had a casino and a beautiful pool. It felt completely safe and it had a secured parking lot for the guests.

Right after getting settled in we decided the rest of the plans for the day. First we went to the cemetery to visit some of my family. My uncle Carlos and Jose are buried right next to my Aunt Maria. My grandma wanted to keep all her children together when they got laid to rest. My favorite Great aunt that I loved to visit was buried right in front of them. We brought them some beautiful flowers and helped tidy they tombstones.

img_4390-1

We then headed over next door to see my Great Grandma. Every time we go visit her my heart just breaks. In many third world countries they love to rob graves. They usually pick ones that rarely get visited and slowly pick away at them. I know this because this happened to her resting spot. When I was about ten, there was a black iron fence that surround her tombstone and had flower holders. Every year we would go there would be things that were slowly missing. Soon enough the black gate was gone and this time the flower holders were gone. As we prayed for her I couldn’t help be feel hurt that someone does this. On the row behind hers there was already an empty plot where someone already looted it. So I put more effort in cleaning her tombstone. I pulled out some weeds and splashed some clean water, to clean off the dust.

img_4453-1

Since we were close to our favorite paleta spot we decided we needed to stop by before we left. I got their cookies and crème paleta and my sister got their pecan. I did regret not getting the strawberry one because that one is their number one best seller. After having our dessert we were hungry again. So we thought why not go back to our favorite taco guy.

Round two at the taco stand I decided to be adventurous. So I got their flautas and man they were good! They had shredded beef filing and were topped off with sour cream, lettuces, pico de gallo, avocado and carne asada. With every bite you could tell that it was made from scratch.

On Saturday we packed and checked out at 10. My aunt Sandra was dying to go back to La Bufadora. So we walked around looking at food and seeing what each vendor was selling.

For you who don’t know what La Bufadora is. Here a video to show you the main reason everyone goes. That is to see the blowhole of the sea. The area causes the water to squirt up and spray everyone standing near it. Many locals go there to beat the heat especially when its just a dollar to go. Right after that we headed straight to the border and it took us about 4 hours to cross. We got home around 11:30 at night because we stopped to eat dinner. I got home tired not only the wait but the heat too. So when I saw my boyfriend a rush of relief hit me. Sometimes going and visiting other places teaches us what to be grateful for. Even though it was two days it took me a few hours to get use to things again.

Wishing you a great day!

Erika

Monday Motivation

The week has started once again. It seemed to me that this weekend just flew right by.

I hope you all had a fun weekend with your mom. Today I was reading such a heartbreaking story of how an instagram post touched many people. Since it was Mother’s day weekend Mindy Kaling decided to post a photo on instagram to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s day. But she also wanted to take a moment and comfort anyone who is missing their Mom. Many people shared how much they miss the smallest things their mom use to do. It was so heartbreaking hearing newly mom’s wish that their Mom could meet their first child.

It made me realize how important each day is and that we have to remember to remind people how much they mean to us. If you have time and a box of tissue I recommend you read some of the stories. Be warned though because you will seriously need those tissues.

As for my Mom’s Mother’s day, my boyfriend and I went to a family gathering. We usually celebrate Mother’s day with all the mom’s on Saturday. So I got to see a bunch of Aunts, cousins, etc..

I decided to be crazy and make my mom her gift. My mom loves Wonder Woman. She especially loves watching all the old seasons of Wonder Woman. Something you don’t know is that I consider my mom to be Wonder Woman. She has always managed to do the impossible and is always sacrificing herself for others. So I made her a Wonder Woman piñata from scratch. It was definitely a challenge for me especially because I knew nothing about piñatas. My boss and I would brain storm how I could make this work. Everything was going good until I realized that I was running out of time. Because I am only human I procrastinated and literally didn’t finish it until 2:00 PM on Saturday.  I was already late to the party and still had to take a shower.

But since I have such an amazing boyfriend he decided to play arts and crafts with me. He is the best illustrator I know, so I assigned him to draw out her outfit. If he never stepped in and helped me I would have never finished. Not going to lie I was like five seconds from having a meltdown and since my bf heard it in my tone he became my little helper.

So here it is! Isn’t it too cute!!! I am so proud that I figured it out and that it actually looked like the lego version of her. If you want me to make a post about how I made her just comment and like below. Feel free to share with your friends.

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hopefully getting into work wasn’t that hard today. This weekend I decided to go visit my family in Hesperia, CA. I love coming home because of the peace and quiet. Another reason I love going home is that I get reminded of how much I am loved and missed (that’s why its hard to come back).

I always find it hard to do everything I want and be able to see everyone. The main places I make a priority to go to are my mom’s house, my grandma’s house and my best friend Vanessa’s apartment. There are days like yesterday that I leave feeling sad because I don’t know the next time I will get to see them. Its mostly because I feel like I never spend enough time with them even when I do see them. It forces me to remember that everyday is precious and that nothing and no one should be taken for granted.

After 3 days away from my boyfriend it made me not only miss my comfy bed but his warm, strong bear hugs. As soon as I saw his face I felt back at home.
I shared everything I did and who I saw. I told him that I gave my dog Muffin a little mani pedi. And since she was a good girl I spoiled her with some dog treats. I even got some treats for my cat too so she wouldn’t get jealous (lol).

I truly loved my weekend away. I don’t know when but next time I go I’m bringing my boyfriend with me 😉
