My foodie list

Low Hanging Clouds in Seattle - Beautiful & Haunting!! - Space Needle - Seattle, Washington:

Just one more week and I’m off to Seattle! I find myself thrilled to be visiting another foodie place. So far my boyfriend and I have been doing our research.

Yesterday we watched Anthony Bourdain Layover episode featuring Seattle. About ten minutes into it and I had a fan girl moment when they mentioned one of the restaurants that I’m dying to go try. He raved about how delicious that place was and as I was watching my mouth couldn’t help but water.

So places that I feel we have to go to of course involve seafood. One of the places is named after one of my favorite books, The Walruses and the Carpenter. They are famously known for their oysters which is one of the things that Anthony Bourdain couldn’t get enough of. Then there is their night life which involves some weird and creative cocktails. There were so many featured on the show that I wouldn’t know which one to chose from.

But one place I know I have to stop for breakfast is Seatown Seabar & Rotisserie. They have some delicious crab meat there. Their crab eggs Benedict with a side of hash browns I heard is a must have. I know for a fact that my boyfriend won’t go against that idea because of his love for crab.

Another idea we have is to drive to Canada and have some sushi there since we heard that is the best place to have sushi. If not then we might make a spurge decisions and  go to Sushi Kashiba for  their omakase experience.

P.s. I heard that the restaurants at Seattle airport have the best clam and salmon chowder. So once we land I know that I will have to go and see for myself.

Seattle, Washington

This week I got some amazing news. My boyfriend told me that for our anniversary in February we will be going to Seattle!

Last year we celebrated it in Portland, Oregon and it was such a unforgettable vacation. When we were there we heard about Seattle and how beautiful it is over there. My boyfriend was completely sold on the idea when he heard about a fish market that tosses fish inside.

So now all I’m doing is counting down the days until it is time to take off. I fell in love with researching and planning out our days that I’m beyond excited that I get to do it all over again. If any of you are from Seattle or have ever been there I would love some recommendations on where you think we should go visit? I know that we are planning on eating the majority of our time there because after looking at yelp my taste buds can hardly wait.

Hope you all have a great Thursday. Just remember one more day until a new year arrives!

Love,

Erika

Monday Motivation

This Saturday was my little sister’s birthday.

She finally turned 21 this year, so we of course went to Vegas. My aunt picked me up after work and we headed straight to my mom’s house. Once we got there we picked them up and made our way to Las Vegas.

It was a girls getaway and it was very refreshing to spend time with my family but also to be apart of a moment that my sister will remember forever. She of course was on a lucky streak when she turned her $5 into $25 dollars. We even went to Excalibur to watch the Tournament of Kings, which is a fun family dinner show.

The weekend couldn’t have been any better. Everyday I feel so grateful that I have an amazing family that loves me unconditionally. There is no greater feeling then spending time with the people that love you.

So this week’s quote is inspired .

my mother is still young and full of life, despite her age, and still looks young as well.. but this is still such a rarely realized aspect of reality...: Photo Credit: Lifehack

Hope you all had a nice and relaxing weekend.

My Original Chef

Many people would never guess that my boyfriend was the only one in our relationship that really knew how to cook. I was 20 years old when I met him and sometimes it shocks me how much I have learned from him. He is not just my boyfriend but my role model.

So as I watched him, I began to pick up some cooking skills. My skills improved significantly that my boyfriend stopped cooking. Now there are moments when I miss his cooking. As any good boyfriend would do on my birthday month, he surprised me with a meal.

There is a local Asian market called H Mart and it is the best place to go treat hunting. We found some delicious ribs there and decided to buy some and make it at home. So today I will be sharing how my boyfriend makes short ribs.

First you put in some oil, we used Canola oil. Once the pan is slightly warmed you slowly put in the meat.

We cooked each side for about 3 minutes each.

img_5705

Once it has brown you want to take the meat to the cutting board and chop it into pieces.

img_5706

Then throw it back into the pan until it is crispy.

When that is all done we get a spoonful of rice and enjoy them together.

Meal Prep Time

Yesterday I decided to prep my lunch for the rest of the week.

When I was looking through Pinterest I found this recipe for Grilled Chicken and Veggie bowl.  Most of the ingredients I already had at home so I thought why not try it.

img_5619

First I cut the three large boneless, skinless, chicken breast into smaller pieces. After that I stabbed them with a knife and got the mallet and tenderized the chicken breast.

img_5621

After that I rubbed on the mixed spices of garlic salt, black pepper, salt, paprika, and grounded cumin.

img_5623

I marinated the chicken overnight, I will admit that I made a mistake and didn’t read the instructions carefully. I should’ve added a lime to the marinate. Since I missed this step I just added after I cooked it.

img_5622

The next morning I used my George Foreman grill to cook my chicken. I cook them for about 5 to 7 minutes depending on how thick the chicken piece was.

img_5626

After that I served my bf and my lunch. The rest I put in the freezer for the rest of the week. To my surprise it was pretty tasty! Even my boyfriend loved his lunch. So the rest of the week is going to be very tasty. As for the side I just boiled some broccoli and threw it in.

Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!

626 Night Market

Today started off with a nice hot coffee.

I woke up feeling the effects of having a fun weekend. It all started Friday night after work, we decided to go to the 626 night market. It was beyond tasty!

Right when we arrived we had no idea where to start. Our minds were being blown after seeing booth after booth. I found myself saying that I had to try that after every single one.

But like most night markets you get some things that were not worth trying. There were about two things that I found that were pretty delicious. For dinner we tried this Filipino chicken and beef BBQ skewers. It was the best Filipino BBQ I have ever had. The ratio of crispness and sauce was perfect!

img_5051

For dessert I had this Thai rolled ice cream. Words can’t describe how amazing it was. Since it was rolled up, it was extremely creamy and light. Every spoonful was pure heaven! The guy who worked there highly recommended the Cookie Butter ice cream over any other creation.

So I took his advice and was extremely happy with it. The only bad thing is now I crave it. Hopefully I can find one near my apartment if not, then I’ll have to wait until September 626 night market.

Yelp Elite Event At The District

So yesterday I attend a Yelp Elite event with my boyfriend. This event was located in Beverly Hills at the restaurant called The District by Hannah An.

We got there 20 minutes early because in any Yelp event it is always worth getting there early. So we walked around the area just to pass the time. As soon as we came back there were already some people heading upstairs.

img_4674

We signed in, got our name tags and free drink tickets.  The first thing we did was go straight to the bar. The line was small so we thought lets put in our order before it becomes chaotic. We both ordered the “Hot Asian”. I was in such a great mood that I started making puns/jokes. I told my boyfriend, “You know for liking a hot Asian, I really don’t care for the Hot Asian”.

img_4673

As people started coming we picked a spot to sit down and enjoy the free food. They had servers that would come around with trays that sampled their food. We tried their Tuna Poke, Duck Confit flatbread, Hannah’s Homemade Noodles and their Spring Rolls. This was just in a bite size since it was a tasting.

img_4659

This was my favorite by far it’s the Tuna Poke. That bite size sent me to heaven! I loved how all the favors complement each other so well. I was dying to get my hands on another.

img_4661

My second favorite was the Duck Confit flatbread. I was so amazed at how much I liked duck. But the cheese , pickled onion and vinaigrette took it to another level.

img_4663-1

Next was Hannah’s Homemade Noodles. They came out nice and warm I had to take moment to properly take a photo of them. This was so simple yet so delicious at the same time. I’m not going to lie, I had some fun mixing all the ingredients together. Other than the noodles it had garlic-lime, Thai basil and panko. My boyfriend and I had two each, so that has to tell you something.

img_4669

If you are a vegan or vegetarian then this might be something you should try. Personally this wasn’t my for me. I was not use to the chef choice protein or their garlic lime vinaigrette.

img_4672

After we left the event I was able to snag a few Yelp goodies such as their lip balm and cute notepads.  The restaurant even gave us these 20 dollar off coupons. I had such  a fun night out that we stopped at our local BCH Tofu place to fill our hungry bellies.

  • Since I was at a Yelp event I’ll post the meal planning tomorrow.
