LA FIDM Shmooz Event

Good Morning Everyone!

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to attend our alumni event in LA. Every FIDM alumni event is different and isn’t held at the same location.img_4486

This year is was held at the New Mart in downtown LA. The purpose of each event is to network with companies that are looking for candidates like you. You also get the chance to network with other alumni from different class years. After exchanging your information with everyone you wait in line for your free food.

Since I love being on time I arrived at the event an hour early. What I thought was so funny is that I arrived so early that no one was there but me. I had my boyfriend tag along since he needs to find more clients for his personal business. So as we made our way around each company table we passed out his card and my resume.

When we left I felt so inspired. As every company saw my resume they would say confidently that they could easily find me  a job doing what I want. I think just those words alone made my day. In an industry where everything is cut throat, its nice to hear that someone else sees potential in you.

After leaving this event my dreams have became bigger . I can’t wait to see what this year brings!

Motivational Monday

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hopefully getting into work wasn’t that hard today. This weekend I decided to go visit my family in Hesperia, CA. I love coming home because of the peace and quiet. Another reason I love going home is that I get reminded of how much I am loved and missed (that’s why its hard to come back).

I always find it hard to do everything I want and be able to see everyone. The main places I make a priority to go to are my mom’s house, my grandma’s house and my best friend Vanessa’s apartment. There are days like yesterday that I leave feeling sad because I don’t know the next time I will get to see them. Its mostly because I feel like I never spend enough time with them even when I do see them. It forces me to remember that everyday is precious and that nothing and no one should be taken for granted.

After 3 days away from my boyfriend it made me not only miss my comfy bed but his warm, strong bear hugs. As soon as I saw his face I felt back at home.
I shared everything I did and who I saw. I told him that I gave my dog Muffin a little mani pedi. And since she was a good girl I spoiled her with some dog treats. I even got some treats for my cat too so she wouldn’t get jealous (lol).

I truly loved my weekend away. I don’t know when but next time I go I’m bringing my boyfriend with me 😉

The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people.:

The Broad Museum

Finally I had the privilege to go and see the Broad museum (insert praise hand Emoji).

I waited three months to finally see it and let me tell you it was worth it. When I was still going to FIDM I had the most amazing teacher.  She taught the history of art and her name was Ms. Repetto. Many people didn’t like that class mostly because they saw no need to learn it. But they couldn’t be more wrong, because there are so many design principles to designing art. In order to create anything aesthetically pleasing you have to follow the basic design principles.

So when I went to that museum it took me back to when my teacher lectured about certain art era’s. I was blown away from the modern art they had and the pop art era. I even got to see one of the many urinals that they had made for the Dada (my personal favorite). They even featured some of the art that I studied.

Here are some photos I got to take that day. The art was so beautiful that sadly my camera couldn’t capture so I asked my boyfriend to use his incredible camera phone. The only disappointment I had was that I didn’t get to see the Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room. It was already booked when we arrived in the museum and were told that it was very unlikely that we would see it.

I highly recommend you reserve tickets online and see this place in person. You won’t be disappointed 🙂

Happy Monday!

My Woman Crush Wednesday

There are some women who put you down and make you feel like an outsider. But there are also some amazing women that support and inspire others.

For me, its hard to find a person that truly inspires me. This week I chose the incredible Chrissy Tegan as my woman crush.

Chrissy Teigen in Chile. (David Burton/Sports Illustrated):

For those who don’t know her, she is an American model. You may have seen her co-host lip sync battle or seen her new cookbook called Cravings. She is also known as the social media queen from instagram to twitter.

One thing that I love about her is how honest she is. Whether is be with her own followers to the interviews she is included in. This woman is beyond beautiful and yet she shares her flaws with a bullet proof vest. Her confidence she has is so inspiring that seems so natural. She is the ultimate girl next door.

I know many friends that became inspired from her blog and during the process of her publishing her own cookbook. If you haven’t seen it I welcome you to check it out. Her personality shines right through her website and cookbook.

So check her out, I promise you will fall in love with as much as I did.

Love,

Erika

Motivational Mondays

This morning I was so proud of myself. I woke up early got ready and left the house by 8:15.

I forced myself to do this because I always feel like I never have enough time in the morning. But I was so shocked that I left earlier than usual and somehow I also feel extremely energized.

I see this being a new routine for myself and I hope I continue to stay strong with this healthy habit.

May your Monday be anything but mundane.
