Hello September!

YAY! It’s finally September!!!

Can you tell that I’m excited? Yesterday I was running an errand at Target and noticed all there Halloween stuff in the dollar section.

There was so much cute stuff I had to stop myself from getting overboard. I even got accepted for a Target credit card!! So I have to control myself from completely losing it at Target lol.

img_5298

I got some window sticker to decorate my office and home. Today since it is the first day of September I decided to celebrate Halloween a month early. So far a few of my co-workers saw what I created and loved it.

Nothing makes me happier than decorating, it gives me a reason to use all my FIDM skills.

I hope you guys have a wonderful Thursday. Just remember one more day til the weekend!

Sincerely,

Erika

Survey for Modern Meow Designs

Hello my beautiful readers!

Today I decided to switch things up and ask you guys a design survey. Yesterday and this morning I have been focusing on creating a business card for myself. It has been a long two days trying to create something that I would approve of.

But since this project is too personal I’m going to need your help chosing a design. Each one is slightly different so be sure to take a good look at each of them.

Comment your favorite below.

I appreciated your time.

Monday Motivation

Good Morning all my sleepy heads!

This week is going to be very important for me. I have a FIDM alumni networking event on Saturday. So this week I’m going to be polishing up my resume, portfolio and even my website.

I plan on getting some new business cards printed and giving out Modern Meow stickers. It’s going to be so much fun seeing college friends while sippin some bubbly.

So to celebrate new changes and mercury going into retrograde, I wanted to share this quote. Hopefully this sets the tone for the rest of the week.

What separate’s you from everyone else is determination.

Sending everyone some positives vibes to kick ass. Happy Monday!!!

626 Night Market

Today started off with a nice hot coffee.

img_5088

Photo booth at for Bruce Tea.

I woke up feeling the effects of having a fun weekend. It all started Friday night after work, we decided to go to the 626 night market. It was beyond tasty!

img_5049

Photo booth at for Bruce Tea.

Right when we arrived we had no idea where to start. Our minds were being blown after seeing booth after booth. I found myself saying that I had to try that after every single one.

img_5050

Paintings that were turned into art fixtures.

But like most night markets you get some things that were not worth trying. There were about two things that I found that were pretty delicious. For dinner we tried this Filipino chicken and beef BBQ skewers. It was the best Filipino BBQ I have ever had. The ratio of crispness and sauce was perfect!

img_5051

For dessert I had this Thai rolled ice cream. Words can’t describe how amazing it was. Since it was rolled up, it was extremely creamy and light. Every spoonful was pure heaven! The guy who worked there highly recommended the Cookie Butter ice cream over any other creation.

So I took his advice and was extremely happy with it. The only bad thing is now I crave it. Hopefully I can find one near my apartment if not, then I’ll have to wait until September 626 night market.

Yelp Elite Event At The District

So yesterday I attend a Yelp Elite event with my boyfriend. This event was located in Beverly Hills at the restaurant called The District by Hannah An.

We got there 20 minutes early because in any Yelp event it is always worth getting there early. So we walked around the area just to pass the time. As soon as we came back there were already some people heading upstairs.

img_4674

We signed in, got our name tags and free drink tickets.  The first thing we did was go straight to the bar. The line was small so we thought lets put in our order before it becomes chaotic. We both ordered the “Hot Asian”. I was in such a great mood that I started making puns/jokes. I told my boyfriend, “You know for liking a hot Asian, I really don’t care for the Hot Asian”.

img_4673

As people started coming we picked a spot to sit down and enjoy the free food. They had servers that would come around with trays that sampled their food. We tried their Tuna Poke, Duck Confit flatbread, Hannah’s Homemade Noodles and their Spring Rolls. This was just in a bite size since it was a tasting.

img_4659

This was my favorite by far it’s the Tuna Poke. That bite size sent me to heaven! I loved how all the favors complement each other so well. I was dying to get my hands on another.

img_4661

My second favorite was the Duck Confit flatbread. I was so amazed at how much I liked duck. But the cheese , pickled onion and vinaigrette took it to another level.

img_4663-1

Next was Hannah’s Homemade Noodles. They came out nice and warm I had to take moment to properly take a photo of them. This was so simple yet so delicious at the same time. I’m not going to lie, I had some fun mixing all the ingredients together. Other than the noodles it had garlic-lime, Thai basil and panko. My boyfriend and I had two each, so that has to tell you something.

img_4669

If you are a vegan or vegetarian then this might be something you should try. Personally this wasn’t my for me. I was not use to the chef choice protein or their garlic lime vinaigrette.

img_4672

After we left the event I was able to snag a few Yelp goodies such as their lip balm and cute notepads.  The restaurant even gave us these 20 dollar off coupons. I had such  a fun night out that we stopped at our local BCH Tofu place to fill our hungry bellies.

  • Since I was at a Yelp event I’ll post the meal planning tomorrow.

June Sephora Play Review

Every month my play box comes I can’t help but get that fuzzy feeling.

img_4584

This month the theme was Minimalist. Which I thought was perfect for the summer. They gave you so many amazing products that I had no idea where to start.

img_4574

1. Tocca Florence: This perfume reminded me of cucumber mist. Personally that scent never mixes well with my body chemistry and causes it to smell like baby powder. I know that if I give it to my mom it will sit well with her and give her that slight mist smell.

2. Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It: It completely tames this crazy mane of mine. Usually I can never leave the house without blow drying it and styling it. I have to do this otherwise my hair will decide for me what kind of mood it’s in. So my mind was blown that this Bumble and bumble product tames my volume  and fizz. I have used this product twice already and I’m in love! I already know that this will be a summer favorite.

3. tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30: This is a perfect way to introduce sunscreen into your daily routine. I know that putting on that extra SPF can be hard to not only to remember but to actually want to do it. I always heard from friends that they never put on sunscreen because they could never get past the smell. Well the good news is that this sunscreen smells amazing. It doesn’t at all remind me of the typical sunscreen that you would dread putting on at the beach. Another plus is that doesn’t leave your skin feeling gross and greasy, which is a big deal for me since I have oily skin.

4. bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer: I had never used a bronzer before so I found myself reading the Sephora June Play pamphlet. They said that the best way to introduce this is just by mixing a few drops with your foundation. So as I applied it I started to get that beautiful sun kissed beach look. But be very careful on how many drops you add because a little goes a long way.

5. BECCA Backlight Priming Filter: This is another great product to mix with your foundation. Since I have oily skin my desire for luminous products I would say is very low. But this product does it so faintly that it gives you a beautiful dewy (but not oily) glow. This product doesn’t have any glitter or shimmer in it which is great, but has a sheen that makes my skin look healthy. It has a slight smell that kind of smells like lemon tarts (which I’m not complaining about) but it doesn’t leave your face smelling that way all day.

6. Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara: I have tried out this mascara before and had a love, hate relationship with it. I have very straight and long eyelashes so getting them to stay up and keep their curl is mission impossible. So in a way this product did help them lift a little but it didn’t create a “They’re Real!” moment. My only problem was that the wand would cause so many clumps whenever I would get ready to use it. Since it did that a lot my mascara ended up drying out.

All in all I loved my box for this month. I think what I love most about this monthly subscription is that it teaches me so much about makeup. I learn how to apply it properly, what works well for me and most importantly it reminds me to have fun with it. I hope you all enjoy my review for this month. Feel free to comment below your favorite product this week or which ones you are curious about. Any shares and likes are appreciated.

Love,

Erika

Sugar, Sugar how you get so fly

Hi my name is Erika and I’m addicted to sugar.

This week I was really taking a look at what I was eating and I notice something shocking. I have a sugar problem. The amount of sugar I intake and crave is out of control. I remember my boyfriend always mention that I have a sugar problem when we were beginning to date. When he would mention that I just thought that was him worrying. But now that I’m looking at what I’m eating I’m starting to realize he was right.

I feel like since he got diagnose with diabetes that was when I lost control. I started hiding sugary foods and drinks from him. At first I thought it was because I didn’t want him to get tempted but in the end I think I wanted to hide my addiction. Since this new lifestyle both of us have to be on board. No one can really cheat because it leads the other to go crazy too. I started to use the excuse of cheating at work to keep it out of our home but I see myself eating crap.

One thing about me that I inherited is my love for soda and coffee. I loves those things so much but the amount of sugar in them is insane. I especially can’t stay away from chocolate. So since of my June goal post I have been making sure that I am staying on top of things. That means getting my sugar intake to go down.

When I started the diabetic lifestyle I realized that sugar is everywhere and has many names. But I never compared the amount of sugar in each thing.  So when I saw this image below I was shocked at the amount each one has.

Pasta sauce with as much sugar as a Mars bar and soup as sweet as cider: We reveal how much of the white stuff is lurking in your favorite foods http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2993513/Pasta-sauce-sugar-Mars-bar-soup-sweet-cider-reveal-white-stuff-lurking-favourite-foods.html:

  • I know that with the amount of sugar I take in daily my body will definitely get sugar withdrawals. So I am planning on doing a sugar detox to start off my battle with sugar.
  • For the sugar detox I am going to just infuse water with lemon, mint and cucumber. I will pick fruits and veggies that have properties that will detox my body. After that I am just going to change my habits to keep me away from reaching for a donut.
  • It will start with just drinking water and unsweetened protein shakes.  In the morning instead of going for the sweet coffee I’m going to go for a protein shake.
  • The next thing is plan healthy carbs and healthy fat for lunch.  I will also need to bring in some healthy snacks to keep me going through the day. This will keep me from eating junk food and going out for lunch.
  • I will start introducing strength training to keep my blood sugar low. The more lean your body is the more easier it is to pass sugar through your system.

If you want to join me and put an end to our sugar addiction  then be sure to check this link out. On Thin, Healthy, Me blog, she goes over what a sugar detox is  and how you could benefit from it. She even created a Yes/ No food list that lets you know what you should eat.

June Goals

This year seems like the months and days are going by so fast.

I found myself telling my co- worker that I couldn’t believe the year is almost half way done. So I thought I would do a June goal list to keep me on track.

There are many things that are motivating me this month. I find myself receiving all theses signs from the universe leading me to my dreams. The only problem is that I’m at a stand still. I don’t know what path to take, do I take the realistic road or my dream…?

So this month I want to do a lot of self work. I want to push myself like I never have. Mostly because I am still young and I have so much I need to learn. I am ready to be dedicated to myself and my career; there is no more room for excuses.

1 . Giving up unneeded sugar in my diet.

2 . Practice meditating everyday when I wake up and before I go to sleep.

3 . Reading more books and articles.

4 . Listening to podcasts when I’m on my way to work and home.

5 . Improve my typing skills to the point where I don’t need to look at the keys.

6 . Start making meal preps the night before.

7 . Focus on gaining muscle.

8 . Drinking more water.

9 . Sharpen my mind with brain training games.

10 . Re-brand myself through my portfolio and resume.

If you have any June goals that you are determine to complete comment below what they are. I’m pretty excited that so I have started working on my goals.

Have a great National Best Friend day!

Erika

p.s. I just found out that this is my 100 blog post.

Sephora Play! May Review

Happy Monday!

This month I was so excited that I got off the Sephora Play waitlist. I was put on the wait list since January and completely forgot about it. I didn’t think I would ever get off that list. But here we are and let me say I beyond happy that I kept this subscription.

The unboxing was amazing! I loved the cute striped cardboard it came in and as you open it you were welcomed. They had everything placed neatly that I had to take a moment to enjoy it. Underneath the welcome pamphlet was the Sephora goodie bag.

img_4224

The pamphlet included all the feature products for the month.

img_4225

When you opened it up it explained what the product is, how to use it and tips for maximum usage. This was my favorite part of it because sometimes I feel lost when using new kind of products.

img_4221

It felt like it was my birthday when I saw what came in the box for May. They included Origins MaskimizerDrink Up, and Clear Improvement Masks, Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial , Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask , Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Kimchi, Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram and Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine .

Origins Maskimizer™ Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer. This product is amazing for the summer. It helps boost your mask to work harder and better for your skin. Since it was on the hot side this weekend; spraying this mist before applying my mask felt so hydrating. I felt a difference when applying that with a mask. A summer must have for people who breakouts during the summer.

Origins Drink Up™ 10 Minute Mask to Quench Skin’s Thirst. I loved this one with the maskimizer. I felt my skin thank me for rehydrating it. Before, I honestly didn’t even know how dry my face was until I used this mask. Thank god I got to try this amazing mask.

Origins Clear Improvement™ Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores. The second day of using this I was shocked . I thought that my skin was junk free but after using this I couldn’t believe how much dirt it took off. I saw all this dirt that was deep in my pores go down the sink. It was nasty but yet amazing. Just remember that a little goes a long way.

Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial. So for the longest I have trying to keep my skin as clear as possible. When I finally cleared it I noticed that I needed to tackle huge pores and scarring from the damage. So when I got this mask, I thanked Sephora for reading my mind and gifting me with this mask. One thing off the bat that I loved was that its perfect for lazy people (like myself). All you do is apply it to your clean face and go to sleep. A phrase I wish was in my beauty routine vocab.  After once use I was hooked I noticed my dark spots become lighter. Another plus was its amazing Rose scent, it soothe me to sleep.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask . I applied this on the ends of my hair because I have an oily scalp. I noticed a little softness to my hair but not a significant change. I think I liked the smell more than the results of it.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Kimchi. Its hard for me to find a lip shade that goes well with my skin tone. Either its too mute or too loud of a color. So when I saw this shade I had my doubts if it would look good on me. I liked the matted shade and how pigmented it was. I even loved the smell of the lipstick, it almost reminded me of the perfume I got.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram. Tarte released it new collection and I was dying to try something out. I have never used nor own a lip liner mostly because I never felt the need for them. But this liner made me second guess my last statement. It glided on so smoothly and the color was a beautiful nude. Once I used it I couldn’t stop looking at my lips. The only tip I have is make sure to exfoliate your lips before using.

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine perfume. This was my favorite by far! I completely fell in love with this scent. It smelled so zesty, fruity and yet romantic. It reminded me of fun beach trips along the coast line. Even my boyfriend got a sniff and loved the aroma it gives off. I caught him many times trying to get a whiff of the perfume. So I’m happy that I found my signature scent for the summer.

After my first experience I will be dreaming of the next box to come! I can’t thank my lucky stars for this amazing subscription.

Let me know your thoughts below and be sure to hit the like button.

IPSY May Glam Bag Review

Happy Friday everyone!

(Woot woot) I’m so excited to start my weekend already! This month my dream came true.

I got to try out the product that I have been dying to get my hands on. It is the Glam Glow Super Mud clearing treatment. If that wasn’t enough to put a smile on my face, I also got taken off Sephora’s play waitlist!!! So this month I received a monthly box from Sephora Play. On Monday I’ll be posting my review on the Sephora Play box. I would have posted it today too but there are still some thing I need to try out.

junebag

Without further ado lets start this months review.

IMG_4273

1. Hikari Cosmetics: Shimmer Bronzer in shade Radiate. I personally loved this bronzer because it could be used for many things. I used it as eye shadow and it created such a golden glow to my eyes. Everyone was asking what eye shadow I was using and some people actually thought it was from Urban Decay. I even used it as a highlighter and that looked so beautiful especially in the sunlight. I felt like this product hit the nail on the head, its basically perfect for the on the go girl.

  1. Glamour Dolls: Gloss Snob in the shade Twirl. This lip gloss is perfect for that animal lover because it is completely cruelty-free. I put this on the summer must have list because this lip gloss is amazing especially for this price ($1.99). It is long lasting, not sticky and stays smooth. The color is perfect because it actually blends in with your natural lip color. I was afraid that the color was going to be a nasty pink but it was surprisingly a beautiful color. I am definitely going to buy some for my niece because she is a huge fan of cruelty – free products.
  2. Trissola: Chia Smoothing Oil.  So I tried this product out twice and my hair hated it. I have an oily scalp so only certain hair products agree with me. This one however did not, it made my hair feel extremely greasy. I tried to use it on the tips of my dry hair but I still got the same result.
  3. Vera Mona: Eye Smudger Brush. I used this brush to apply the bronzer as an eye shadow. It helped a lot when I was creating smokey eye or winged liner look. It achieves everything you want and helps when you need to do final touches on your look.
  4. GLAMGLOW: SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment. Since this product was released I have been dying to try it out. When it first came out everyone was talking about the miracles that this mud masks creates. I heard that it helped so many people suffering from acne scarring or problem areas. So I was beyond excited when I saw it in my bag this month. Here comes the sad part… When I was getting ready to squeeze it out nothing was coming out. So I squeezed harder and out of the other end comes the masks exploding out. It got on my bathroom walls. So as I attempted to put it on I was completely out and started getting some from the wall. After I washed it off I did see a huge difference on my face. My skin became brighter and the next day I saw some zits disappear. The only thing that was a con was the fact that I only got one use out of it when I could have had three. So if you decided to buy it get it in a jar or else it will just be a sad mess.

I hope you guys enjoyed my review and I wish you a nice relaxing weekend.

Erika
