Gains: Just the Beginning

I was talking to my doctor about my uncontrollable weight loss and she mentioned joining the Gain Squad. For the people who haven’t heard of this tready workout idea then let me explain.

What is gains?

According to Urban Dictionary, “Gains is best described as a lifestyle that many take to put on muscle and get into shape. However, gains isn’t just about getting big muscles and looking lean. One will find that making gains consists of: the process of lifting, eating healthy, and making life decisions based off of ones health”.

So I thought instead of bombarding you with all this information I will slowly ease you into the process. What you might not know is that may fitness “gurus” create their own version of gains. They charge you about $20 a month for a plan that includes workouts, meal plans and some other tips. Since I can’t really afford that I decided to create my own that caters to my needs. If this sounds like something you would like to do as well, I will lead you through the process of creating your own.

I learned that reddit is your best friend. There are many people in fitness forums that not only will help support you through the process but will even share tips with you. They have people that share their meal plans and even give you advice on what brands to buy from.

The first step in creating a meal plan is to know how much calories you need to have daily. The website I used was had a Weight Gain Calculator. Here is what mine looked like:

I chose the calorie boost because I have a hard time putting weight on.

Then once you hit calculate it comes up with how many calories, carbs, protein and fats  you intake.

If you keep reading the article on the website it explains what kind of workouts you should do to gain that muscle. I even love that they have all theses tips and resources you can utilize.

After that the next step is to use the Macronutrient Calorie Calculator. I did this extra step because my boyfriend is diabetic so he can’t eat a lot of carbs. So this tool lets you pick a common diet ratio. Here is my example:

After finding out your results you can customize your own meals. I started using Fitness Tracker to see exactly how much I am eating so I never go over. So far that has been helping me see what exactly I am eating. I recommend you read the rest of that article to get a better understanding of what this calculator is used for.

Tomorrow I will show you how to plan out a week’s worth of meals and lunches.

I hope this helped you as much as it has helped me. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Any likes and shares are appreciated!

My Weekly Update

Things have been pretty crazy lately. I have been trying to keep up with making meals by hand and it’s insane. Who knew that living a diabetic lifestyle would be so hard? The things that you have to cut off for me seemed so extreme. I went from making an easy lunch to making a meal. I use to get away with making a sandwich and having a soup with it. But now I have to lower the amount of carbs and sodium I eat. So there are days like yesterday when I eat my lunch and am still hungry. I honestly think that if I start adding more healthy cheap snacks to my daily routine I’ll put an end to that hunger.

There are some things that I have to take from this week. You just have to do a lot of research and I’m not just talking about deciding what you are going to eat. Groceries tend to add up and what I think is funny is that eating healthier cost A LOT more. So making it a habit to look at store ad’s and clip coupons is important.

Another thing I took away was that creating these diabetic friendly meals were easy. I loved that there was so much information out there about this disease. Since my loved one is waiting on their diagnosis of what kind of diabetes they have we have changed our eating habits for the severe kind. So I picked dinners that would be easy to make and were affordable. I was so afraid that I was going to think that the food was bland and nasty but it wasn’t. I was so shocked after my first meal because I honestly thought that, that was the best meal I have EVER made. It was tasty, flavorful and healthy. Something that I never thought would be together.

One thing I learned for next week is to prep food. I hate doing it and having to keep making food even after I’m done making dinner. But when I put it off until the morning I am either late to work or I never get up to actually do it. I also have to plan out when and what time we are going to work out. This one is going to be a challenge but it WILL happen.

Hope you enjoying checking in on me and this new lifestyle habit I incorporated into my life. For more diabetic recipes that I have tried and plan on trying check out my Pinterest. I even pinned some diabetic recipes just in case you get a sweet tooth.

Weekend Getaway

My boyfriend got a really good deal on a motel in Lompoc, CA. For one night he spent $20 and it was an amazing deal with free breakfast.

On Saturday we woke up at 4:30 am (I didn’t get out of bed til 5). The only reason why we woke up so early was to try Paula’s Pancake breakfast. We have been there before and I loved how delicious their bacon was and how crispy their hash browns are too.

After we finished our delicious breakfast we had time to kill until check in. So we decided to try Anderson’s famous split pea soup. Once you go inside you see their cute gift shop area and if you go upstairs you will see their museum. I felt like I traveled back in time as we were looking at old can goods they had on display. They even had a lot of their city history captured in old photos and newspaper clippings.

Since we were full we thought a nice outdoor activity would help us digest our food so we went to the La Purisima Mission State Historic Park. If you have kids or you just love learning I highly recommend you check this mission out. They are extremely hands on when it comes to teaching you how things were done during the mission times. They have many animals such as pigs (big ones), chickens, horses and a huge bull. One of my favorite things is that we got some free finger food but I got to make my own necklace. I know that I will be back and this time I’m going to bring my aunt, mom and sister there.

As for dinner, I was blown away by the best steak I have ever had! We went to this restaurant called  The Hitching Post II . My boyfriend being the yelp elite he is was scoping out the area for good eats. He said that everyone posting reviews would say best steak I have ever had. When we got there the wait was 45 to an hour long. We were lucky that there was room for us at the bar because my stomach was already talking lol.

I loved this place so much! I had their split pea soup and steak dinner. The pea soup was 10 times better than Anderson’s (which stocked me). Then for my meal I had their medium rare 8 oz filet mignon with a baked potato. The steak was so juicy and tender, it felt like heaven in my mouth.

The next day we got our free breakfast and checked out. Overall it was a great short trip to get away from the everyday. I hope you all had a fun weekend as well!

My Insta Crush

So recently I have been following new people on Instagram. One person in particular has turned into my inspiration.

Her name is Hilaria Baldwin, you may know her as Alec Baldwin’s wife. What you probably don’t know about her is that she is a yoga instructor and is recently going to publish her own cookbook.

Her outlook on life, fitness and being a mom is pretty amazing. I think what baffles me is how early she gets up to do her daily run or her extreme yoga challenges. You should definitely check out her insta feed and see what she is up to.  I promise you will leave inspired.
