Detox Tuesdays

I don’t know about you but this Tuesday seems so draining.

Since today is my early day I am planning on a nice cleaning day. For me I love detoxing well…cleaning detoxing. I see my personal space as a reflection of my mind. So cleaning helps me mentally detox.

Strangling I love vacuuming, laundry and doing the dishes. Those specific chores somehow make me feel relaxed and calm. I especially love doing the dishes with my music blasting. It lets me sing and dance away all my problems.

So if you are like me and feel drain take a moment to do something for you.

Here is my current favorite song that has been motivating me lately.

My Insta Crush

So recently I have been following new people on Instagram. One person in particular has turned into my inspiration.

Her name is Hilaria Baldwin, you may know her as Alec Baldwin’s wife. What you probably don’t know about her is that she is a yoga instructor and is recently going to publish her own cookbook.

Her outlook on life, fitness and being a mom is pretty amazing. I think what baffles me is how early she gets up to do her daily run or her extreme yoga challenges. You should definitely check out her insta feed and see what she is up to.  I promise you will leave inspired.

What I’m thankful for

Sorry for the late post but things have been pretty crazy. With preparing for black Friday and Cyber Monday for American Apparel I honestly had no time to write.

I wasn’t going to write this since it’s already December but a shocking event caused me to re-think this.Vigil at San Manuel Stadium. (Marcus Yam / Los Angeles Times)

Vigil at San Manuel Stadium. (Marcus Yam / Los Angeles Times)

On December 2nd there was a shooting in San Bernardino. There was fourteen people killed and twenty one wounded. My family and friends that live there were in a panic. My best friend told me that it was happening five minutes away from her job. The SB college had to cancel classes and have police escorted students to their cars.

What hurts the most is that until the shooters are catch and behind bars people won’t be able to sleep. I’m scared for the safety of my family and my friends. That alone says a lot.

With all the pain and evil in this world sometimes we need to be reminded what joy and good we have in our lives. So here is what I am grateful for.

  • That I’m extremely close to my family. (And I love it)
  • That I have a job to go to everyday. That includes having an amazing boss and co-workers.
  • That I have food on my plate everyday and that I never go hungry again.
  • That I have these beautiful, creative, supportive friends that I love unconditionally.
  • That I have this incredible boyfriend who shares his wisdom with me. Who has helped me through so much.
  • That I could go to the college of my choice and get my degree.
  •  I’m so grateful that I have a warm home to come to. Where I always feel welcomed.
  •  I’m grateful for all those people who choose to serve our country.
  •  I’m grateful for my health and the health of everyone that I love.
  • I’m grateful that there is still good in this world. That there will be someone who is willing to help you whenever you need it. That random person who stops to help you change your flat tire or buys you a coffee because you forgot your card at home.

And I am grateful for you; my followers and readers. Without you I wouldn’t get excited to write or post anything on my blog. With every like and comment you remind me why I am doing this. You guys make me feel like I am actually contributing something to your day. I really appreciate you guys a lot!

My Book Club

As you get older you meet more and more people who can contribute so much knowledge in your life. For some reason my whole life I was always drawn to having older friends. And no it wasn’t for the alcohol. I always felt like they had just advice and wise words for me as I grew. I was so fortunate to have even aunts, family friends and even a mom who wanted to make sure that I didn’t make the same mistakes that they did. They gave me the best childhood ever.

Because of that I never wasn’t the most popular person at school. I knew that getting drunk at parties and having sex in high school wasn’t ever going to get me anywhere. So I focused on my studies and was active in school clubs. I’m not saying that you can’t have the best of both worlds but that was never MY scene.

When I moved in with my cousin, I got to meet these amazing people. My family that live in Long Beach introduced me to this amazing person named Crystal Lynn. She can light up any room with not only her smile but her kind heart. I met her on first Fridays, which is where her Zen Relaxation studio was located. She reads tarot cards, guides meditations and does spiritual guidance.

It was after talking to her about personal growth that she recommended me this book called, The Power of Now. Once I read the reviews on how much people liked the book, I knew that I just had to buy it.

Common Ground
This is not just another candy-ass elementary level celestine prophetic conversation supposedly with God clone. It is fresh, revealing, current, new inspiration. Power of Now is written from a depth of a person who has considered suicide, gone through his dark night of the soul and has come out the other side into his very personal and ecstatic enlightenment. If you are considering getting back in touch with your soul this book is a great companion.

New Age Books
Now and then, time cultivates these perfect jewels. You find one and think nothing better is possible. Such is The Power of Now. A regular customer at our store, and student of Chi Gong said, “It not only synthesizes everything I’ve delved into, but it does it so clearly and simply.” Many customers report back literally “thrilled” to have come across the book.

If you are interested in joining me, I’ll be reading the first and second chapter. On Thursday I’ll report my thoughts on both chapters. Can’t wait to start reading!!

Falling into a healthy habit.

When I moved out of High Desert I thought living on my own would be easy. I knew all the basics to get me by. But as I moved from place to place I started to picking up bad habits. I began to eat out more, even though I knew I had food at home. My addiction to fast food became so much of a problem that I would think of excuses to go and buy it. What also didn’t help was that I wasn’t making anything from scratch. All the food I would buy from the grocery store would be frozen or pre-made.

When I finally got my current job at American Apparel I started to feel the toll my body was taking. I began getting sick all the time from not only what I was putting in my body but stress too.

Once I began dating and meeting new people, I picked up great ways to get rid of my bad habits. I feel that having a support group is extremely important no matter what unhealthy habit you have. My support was my boyfriend, he was always strict with me. I had to completely lower my in-take on fast food and junk food. That alone was so hard but the way that I got through it was by researching healthy snacks and foods to try. I fell in love with Whole Foods so much that I just wanted to buy everything.

After falling in love with different types of foods I began cooking from scratch. I began throwing in veggies and fruits into my diet. Before you know it I looked forward to cooking and feeling satisfied that other people liked it as well.

Another habit I began to incorporate into my life was taking care of my skin. I started taking hair, nail and skin vitamins and even a probiotic. The difference I saw was pretty amazing! My breakouts were almost gone and with the probiotic I took I saw a difference in my scarring. Now I’m not saying that this works for everyone but it is definitely a good idea to start cleansing your body from the inside out.

Nature Made Hair, Skin, Nails with Biotin Softgel 2500 mcg, 60 Count (Target) and Nutrition Now PB 8, Probiotic Acidophilus 120 capsules (Spourt or Amazon).

So my new challenge for the month of September is to start meditating and doing yoga. I’m doing this not only to help manage my stress but to have a fun way of working out. I hope this inspires you to make small changes in your life so you can live a healthier lifestyle. Feel free to share what you kind of small changes you make.

Erika

A Moment of Relaxation

This weekend was the most relaxing one I have had in a long time. We went into this nice clean Asian spa called the Rivera Health Spa . My boyfriend had been there before and always mentioned how relaxing that place was. So when arriving you pay your entrance fee which is $25. After  that you are giving a towel, shirt and shorts to change into. You are then given the option to shower before you go onto the sauna rooms. The best part if you decide to take a shower before or after is that they always provide you with everything you would need.

The sauna rooms can range from different temperatures and don’t worry about cooling off because they have a nice cold room that you can cool off in. My favorite room was the jade room and its is about 117 degrees in there. I loved it so much because since it was so peaceful and having all those crystals surround you. I just wanted to start meditating and as I closed my eyes I felt my stress levels going down.  My second favorite was the Salt room and that was set to 133 degrees. But don’t let the heat scare you off. The salt room has thousand year-old salt so all the minerals are going into your pores and helping cleans your body of toxins. The last hot sauna was the lotus room which is a new addition and that room is set at 140. We went in there for no more than 5 min and our poor feet felt the heat.  It was so hot to stay in there, that we chicken out and went to back to the salt room.

In between rooms we drank plenty of water and we would visit the cold room in between saunas. Also if you get hungry, you don’t need to worry about bring your wallet you are charged with the number they give you.

I highly recommend that you check it out for yourself and treat yourself to some relaxation for the everyday mundane.
