Friday Madness

 :

Now that Christmas is around the corner I can’t help but spend this week reflecting on how soon it will be 2017.

Apart of me is excited for a new year with new beginnings. But there is still some sadness of how fast this year went by. There are a lot of unresolved things that I need to tackle before I dive into the new year.

Some self reflecting I believe is needed in order for me to properly welcome 2017. Just yesterday at Target I realized how crazy people are getting over buying gifts. One man was starting to get aggressive with one of the employees just yelling and justifying his behavior towards another employee.

So many of us forget what the holidays represents and I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but its not a designer bag or an IPhone. It is simply being surrounded with the people that love you and of course some delicious food. One of my favorite memories when I was little was having all my cousins, aunts and uncles together at my grandma’s house. We would all wait until midnight to open our gifts.

Now we are lucky if one day out of the year we all see each other. Just as we get older our responsibilities change and many of us sadly have to work during the holidays. So if by chance we are all under the same roof that alone is just an amazing gift in itself.

I say this because if you decide to do some Christmas shopping this weekend or even during next week, please stay mindful of the employees. They are just like you and I, except they have to put up with this madness and crazy customers. So stay safe and mindful of others .

Love,

Erika

Hello September!

YAY! It’s finally September!!!

Can you tell that I’m excited? Yesterday I was running an errand at Target and noticed all there Halloween stuff in the dollar section.

There was so much cute stuff I had to stop myself from getting overboard. I even got accepted for a Target credit card!! So I have to control myself from completely losing it at Target lol.

I got some window sticker to decorate my office and home. Today since it is the first day of September I decided to celebrate Halloween a month early. So far a few of my co-workers saw what I created and loved it.

Nothing makes me happier than decorating, it gives me a reason to use all my FIDM skills.

I hope you guys have a wonderful Thursday. Just remember one more day til the weekend!

Joe Rogan Book Club

Have you ever listen to a Joe Rogan podcast?

When my bf introduced me to his podcast it was a lot for me to take in. He has a variety of guests that appear on his show. Some days its about history and others its about martial arts. Regardless of what the subject is you always leave with some knowledge.

So when we take long drives, we listen to his podcast. Since listening to his podcast I have discovered many books that I wanted to read. One of them was inspired by the MMA fighter Justin “The Viking” Wren. He was a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience and talked about the his experience with the pygmy people.  It broke my heart to hear about their daily struggles and how it was all traced back to King Leopold. As they got more into the history of the pygmy people I found myself wanting to learn more. Justin Wren recommended reading, King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild.

The other book that I wanted to read was The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It is a perfect book for someone who is an artist. When I say artist I mean any one who is creative and loves to think outside the box. It is a very witty book and reminds me of that bold friend who is brutal honest. The purpose of the book is to help you become successful by breaking down these obstacles we put up. As I read the first page I felt like the book was written just for me, like it was giving me direct advice.

The other book that I have been reading is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.  I would say it is very similar to The War of Art, except I would say it is more spiritual. Many people who have read this book have told me that it was a life changing book.

Normally I finish one book before starting another one. But since my bf surprised me with the other two J.R. books I couldn’t say no. Now I am beyond excited to started these new books in September!

P.s. The Day Designer is a new planner I bought at Target. I have been obsessed with it and felt like I had to included it in my September books.

Motivational Monday

Good Morning!

I hope coming back to work on Monday wasn’t too hard. For me this weekend was pretty exciting!

I got invited to attend my boyfriends cousins wedding. So you know what that meant…SHOPPING!

One of my favorite things to do is gift shop. Especially when it comes to gift bags, tissue and wrapping paper. So of course I went to my favorite store (Target) to get them.

The ceremony was so relaxing, I had to take a moment to enjoy it. Since I am Hispanic weddings for us are big and loud. But this one was so intimate and peaceful.

She had her ceremony at the beach and picked the best view.  She wasn’t very traditional which I really liked. I loved that she didn’t care that someone was late or that her husband saw her in her dress. All you left with was the love they truly have for each other.

I loved meeting more of my boyfriends family and catching up with them. But what blew the night away was meeting one of my favorite brands owner. She was just as sweet and lovely as I thought she would be.

So I thought that today’s quote should reflect what people aren’t told often. I found this quote from Free People and thought it captured exactly what I wanted to say.

Suddenly you just know it's time to start something new & trust the magic of new beginnings.:

Hope you have a happy Monday.

Love,

Erika

In the Christmas Spirit

With all the craziness of shopping, saving and working I managed to finally sit down. Here is how I decided to decorate for the holidays at home and work.

I spent about $14 for everything that I needed. I got some colorful Christmas lights to hanging around the window and bathroom mirror. I then went to the dollar tree and got some red and green garland. I used that to trim the bathroom mirror and threw in some golden bells just to make it a little fancy.

As for work I decided to go with the same theme except I added in white christmas lights. To cover up the green wiring I used some of the silver garland.

I even put up a gingerbread house that I so happened to get from Wendy’s.  I knew that I had to keep it up when I saw that they had a gingerbread kitty.

After putting everything up it definitly put me in the Christmas spirit.

Halloween Decorating

Is it me or is this month going by quickly?

I serious can’t believe next week is Halloween. Last week I decided to stop by the local Dollar Tree and Target by my work to see what they had. I was amazed of how quickly everything fell off the shelves. There were still some things but in the end I decided to be creative with what they had.

At the Dollar Tree I spent $3.50 on my office decorations. They were two Halloween garland; one was purple with bats and the other was white with ghost. I also got some window decals that easily removable. They glow in the dark and are bats, skulls and bones.

Since I live in a studio apartment with my BF that their is really not a lot of room or things to decorate. So I decided to just put some colorful decals on the mirror to at least see everyday when we get ready. I also used the left over garland to the top of the mirror and below our medicine cabinet. For the window decals, I spent about $4.00 for two packets from Target.
